Indigenous Children Win in Court: Federal Government Appeals

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

The federal government has filed a notice of appeal from a recent Federal Court victory for Indigeous  children. The issue at the heart of the ongoing litigation is federal funding for child welfare services on reserve. According to the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society :

"The First Nations Child and Family Caring Society (FNCFCS), together with the Assembly of First Nations (AFN), Chiefs of Ontario and Amnesty International today expressed concern following the Government of Canada's application for appeal in a human rights case that could mean fair and equitable treatment of First Nations children."
