Support local feminist organisations: Ottawa Rape Crisis Centre

  • Values and Beliefs:

  • Sexual violence against women and children is both a crime and a human rights violation;
  • Sexual violence against women and children is power-based, gender-based, racist, supported by institutions and society and therefore political;
  • A society which reinforces inequality between its members perpetuates sexual violence against women and children. There is a fundamental power imbalance in this male-dominated society based on privilege and access to resources;
  • All forms of oppression are acts of violence; racism, sexism, homophobia and other forms of oppression are used to violate and control women and children. Sexual violence is a direct result of oppression in our society and is a tactic of control used against women and children;
  • Every woman has the right to have control over her own body and to make her own reproductive choices;
  • Diverse communities may have varying ways of addressing sexual violence against women and children;
  • Women are best able to support and to facilitate healing with women survivors of sexual violence;
  • Integrity, mutual respect, trust, anonymity, confidentiality, honour, accessibility, humour, openness, honesty and non-judgment are the basis of our interactions;
  • Dynamic movement and evolution of our practices enhance the quality of our services;
  • Everyone is responsible for ending violence against women and creating violence-free environment;
  • We are committed to reflecting our diverse community; we do this through our hiring, our provision of services and at all levels of the organization;
  • Women are our most important resource; our organization benefits from the time and talents our volunteers contribute.
